Healthier eating is it really that much more expensive?

So I have been on the budget band wagon for awhile like many of you. I have been to the fast food places and see the $1 menus. I have compared prices at the store for canned and boxed goods like you? I have put veggies back because they were to expensive compared to that can of soup that has veggies in it. I have shouted yes to posts that say eating healthy is to expensive. The reality is, is it the food price or the convenience price?

We are living in a chaotic busy world. We have moms working full time jobs and Children to run around to extracurricular activities. We often resort to hitting those drive throughs. The cost adds up quickly so many times it is the $1 menu or maybe that skillet boxed meal when we get home. Is this truly the only option we have?

Here is just one example. I bought a huge bag of carrots for around $2 they were the large carrots like mom used to buy. Yes that meant i had to chop them for soups. I had to cut them up for snacks. It took a little more effort to have tbese carrots but in the end, it was well worth it. I created a few different soups and salads as well as provided a healthy alternative for snacks in the fridge. In the end they were well worth that $2. I was also buying celery. The whole stock that requires washing and cutting up. These were another great addition to these meals and snacks i provided. It might be tempting to buy the nicely cleaned up pre cut veggies but is it necessary?

Yes I know we feel like we don't have time to cook like moms in the past but I am here to say it is. It takes some planning and prep work but you can do it. In the end you will be truly feeding you and your family's bodies and not just filling their stomachs.
